Finsilva Oyj has appointed a Forest and Environment Manager to advance the responsible and diverse utilization of nature capital. Markus Nissinen will assume the role on January 1, 2025, joining Finsilva from the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK).
Finsilva, one of Finland’s largest forest owners, has chosen Markus Nissinen to develop biodiversity and new business opportunities. Nissinen brings exceptionally broad expertise in Finland’s forest sector.
“We have found an experienced top professional who knows the issues, people, and organizations. Our goal is to engage the market in maintaining natural capital. Nissinen has the experience and expertise for this, which is currently scarce in Finland,” says Juha Hakkarainen, CEO of Finsilva.
Nature capital markets at the core of the role
Markus Nissinen has spent most of his career advocating for private landowners. The new role includes monitoring and promoting nature capital markets, as well as developing sustainable forestry, land use, and renewable energy.
“My experience in safeguarding biodiversity, nature conservation, and renewable energy use will bring value to Finsilva. Establishing genuine nature value markets in Finland is essential. When these markets function effectively, wood buyers, and ultimately, consumers contribute to the costs of preserving natural values,” Nissinen states.
